SURREY, BC — Last Saturday, March 7, on the third day of RamadanFest, a four-day festival held at the Cloverdale Agriplex in Surrey, MLA Amna Shah, MLA Garry Begg, and MLA Jagrup Brar joined community members in celebration.
Now in its second year, Ramadanfest, hosted by Salaam Events, has quickly grown into a beloved community tradition and is considered the largest night market of its kind in Canada, welcoming nearly 50,000 attendees over the course of the four-day event.
MLA Amna Shah (Surrey City Centre), MLA Garry Begg (Surrey Guildford), and MLA Jagrup Brar (Surrey Fleetwood) spent time meeting with local vendors and community organizers and connecting with attendees while sharing tea and food together on Saturday evening.
Ramadan is a sacred month in Islam, a time of reflection, generosity, and community, during which observers fast from food and drink during daylight hours. The month concludes with the joyful celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
This year’s festival featured more than 100 vendors, including 20 food booths, along with a wide variety of market vendors offering shopping, food, and cultural experiences that brought people together in the spirit of community.
