Safe Spot Foundation: Building Stronger Minds Together

In a time where youth are facing growing challenges around mental health, identity, and belonging, Safe Spot Foundation is creating something simple but powerful: a space where young people feel seen, heard, and supported.

Founded by Ahmed Khan in Surrey, British Columbia, Safe Spot Foundation is a youth-led nonprofit dedicated to empowering young people through mentorship, fitness, and community connection. What began as a vision to support youth beyond traditional systems has grown into a movement rooted in trust, consistency, and real relationships.

At the core of Safe Spot Foundation’s work are its FREE weekly after-school programs, designed specifically for at-risk youth and those from low-income families. By removing financial barriers and running programs directly within schools, Safe Spot ensures accessibility for those who need it most. Each session blends structured physical activity such as: basketball, boxing, and strength training with guided discussions around mental health, peer pressure, and self-confidence. This combination allows youth to build both physical strength and emotional resilience in a safe, supportive environment.

Alongside its weekly programming, Safe Spot operates a second stream focused on community-based events that bring youth together in meaningful ways. From organizing basketball tournaments that promote teamwork and mentorship, to hosting mental health awareness initiatives like community runs, the foundation creates spaces where young people feel connected and empowered. Their outreach also extends beyond youth programming, including initiatives such as homeless support drives, where essential items are distributed to vulnerable populations reinforcing the value of compassion, service, and community responsibility.

What truly sets Safe Spot apart is its approach. It’s not about one-time events or surface-level engagement it’s about consistency. It’s about showing up, week after week, and becoming that “go-to person” every young person needs. The impact is seen in the moments that often go unnoticed: a youth opening up for the first time, asking if the program will run again next week, or simply feeling like they belong.

As conversations around youth mental health continue to evolve, Safe Spot Foundation stands as a reminder that real change begins at the community level with trust, access, and genuine connection.

Because no young person should ever feel like they have to go through life alone.
