NEW WESTMINSTER, BC — The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver (EFry) officially launched EFry Week 2026 with Voices of Resilience, a community luncheon focused on raising awareness of gender-based violence and the realities facing women, girls, and gender-diverse people across British Columbia.
Held at Northview Golf & Country Club, the event brought together community leaders, advocates, service providers, supporters, and members of the public for an afternoon of conversation, reflection, and collective action.
The luncheon featured keynote remarks from Dr. Ramneek Dosanjh, MD, CCFP, alongside a panel discussion with Hermina Khara, Katrina Chen, and Mariat Jibril, who shared personal insights and perspectives on the impacts of gender-based violence and the importance of community-based support systems.
“Conversations like these matter because they help shine a light on experiences that too often remain unseen,” said Azra Hussain, CEO of the Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver. “EFry Week is an opportunity to bring people together, raise awareness, and continue building safer, more supportive communities for women, girls, and gender-diverse people.”
EFry Week takes place from May 4–10, 2026, in the lead-up to Mother’s Day. Throughout the week, EFry is hosting community events and awareness initiatives across Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, and Vancouver Island, with a focus on gender-based violence prevention, advocacy, healing, and support.
Founded in 1939, the Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver supports nearly 15,000 individuals each year through housing, health, justice, prevention, and community support programs.
EFry extends sincere thanks to BMO for supporting Voices of Resilience, along with event supporters Furniture Connection and Nana’s Kitchen. EFry also thanks Northview Golf & Country Club for hosting the event, and all speakers, attendees, and community partners who contributed to the conversation.
