At Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers, we occasionally hear the misconception that we are operated or overseen by the police, when in fact, we are an independent organization.
And that’s important, because we want everyone to know they can absolutely trust us when they call with an anonymous tip. Crime Stoppers is independent, and your identity is never revealed because we NEVER know who you are when you call. We do not have Caller ID or track IP addresses.
“We’re also sensitive to the fact that sometimes, people moving here from other countries might bring an inherent distrust of the police or other authorities with them,” says Linda Annis, Executive Director of Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers. “I can’t emphasize enough we are not the police, and that it is completely safe for anyone to call Crime Stoppers.”
“For some of our new immigrant families, not speaking English might also seem to be an impediment, but it’s not,” Annis adds. “Crime Stoppers can guide you through how to provide your tip, in your own language, through our multilingual translation service. Tips can be accepted in 115 languages, 24 hours a day – seven days a week. For more than 40 years, we’ve guaranteed the anonymity of each and every person who’s ever called us with a crime tip no matter where they’re from, or what language they speak.”
If you have information about any crime that could lead to an arrest, anonymous tips may be provided through Crime Stoppers’ downloadable “P3” phone app, calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, online at solvecrime.ca, or by following the link on the Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers Facebook page.
