British Columbia’s BC Legends continue to establish themselves as one of the country’s dominant ball hockey teams, capturing their fourth consecutive national championship after earning a bronze medal on the international stage at the 2026 ISBHF Legends World Ball Hockey Championships two weeks earlier.
The BC Legends added another chapter to their impressive run this summer, winning the Men’s Legends 44+ division at the 2026 Canadian Ball Hockey Association (CBHA) National Championships in Calgary, Alberta.
The victory marked the team’s fourth consecutive national title, further cementing the BC Legends’ status among Canada’s top Legends-level ball hockey programs. The team entered the championship final against the Bulkamania Titans with an opportunity to extend its national championship streak — and delivered, finishing the tournament as Canada’s Men’s Legends 44+ champions.
Behind the team’s success is a vision that began with Captain Peter Cabral, who set out to build more than just a competitive ball hockey team. His vision was to create the BC Legends as a program built around culture, camaraderie, teamwork and legacy — values that have helped shape the team both on and off the floor.
Supporting that vision is a strong leadership group of assistant captains, including Danny Vero, Jay Dove, Chris Sirovyak and Smiter Kaila. Together, the leadership group has played an important role in building a culture where experience is valued, teammates are supported and the pursuit of excellence remains at the heart of the program.
Among them is Smiter Kaila, a name that carries significant recognition throughout the BC and Canadian ball hockey community. Known affectionately as the Godfather of ball hockey, Kaila is widely respected across Canada for his accomplishments, experience and contributions to the sport. His presence within the BC Legends leadership group adds another layer of experience and credibility to a team built around a strong ball hockey tradition.
The national championship was only part of the team’s remarkable summer.
Following their success at the Canadian Nationals, the BC Legends took their talents to the international stage at the 2026 ISBHF Legends World Ball Hockey Championships in the Czech Republic. The tournament brought together Legends teams from around the world and was held in Černošice, a community located approximately 18 kilometres southwest of Prague.
Competing internationally, the BC Legends once again demonstrated the experience, determination and competitive spirit that have defined the program in recent years. The team ultimately secured a bronze medal at the World Championships, returning home with another international podium finish.
For the BC Legends, the results represent more than another pair of medals. Four consecutive national championships demonstrate the consistency, leadership and longevity of a program that continues to compete at the highest level, while a World Championship bronze adds another international achievement to an already impressive record.
At the centre of that success is a culture created through leadership and shared purpose. Cabral’s original vision of building a team that could develop a lasting culture and legacy continues to be reflected in the BC Legends’ performances and in the leadership of its captains and veteran players.
The team’s success also highlights the strength of ball hockey in British Columbia and the province’s ability to produce experienced athletes capable of competing — and winning — on both the national and international stage.
With four straight national titles and a World Championship bronze now added to their résumé, the BC Legends have once again given British Columbia plenty to celebrate.
The BC Legends’ 2026 season stands as a testament to experience, teamwork, leadership and the continued pursuit of excellence — a legacy that began with a vision and continues to grow with every championship, every teammate and every generation of players who proudly wear the BC Legends name.
