Langley Township, BC – April 3, 2025– After a successful career as a two-time Member of Parliament and three-time candidate, John Aldag is excited to announce his candidacy in the newly established federal riding of Langley Township – Fraser Heights under Prime Minister Mark Carney. With a proven track record of delivering tangible results for his community, Aldag is committed to bringing his wealth of experience back to the political stage to continue advocating for the needs and priorities of the people in this new riding.
During his time as an MP, Aldag successfully secured millions of dollars in federal investments that made a direct impact on the quality of life for families, businesses, and communities across the region. From affordable housing initiatives to supporting local arts and culture, his efforts have addressed key areas of concern for the community. Notably, Aldag played a critical role in securing $179 million for the construction of 590 affordable rental homes, and $5 million for electric vehicle charging infrastructure. He’s committed to working with the Township of Langley and province to deliver on the $25 million federal commitment to build the Langley Arts Centre that he secured during his last term in Ottawa.
Aldag’s leadership has also benefited community safety, mental health and addiction services, and crime prevention programs. His commitment to improving transportation networks was evident when he announced $99,973 to improve active transportation in Langley, promoting sustainable and healthy transit options for residents. Additionally, his advocacy has supported Indigenous communities, securing $500,000 to commemorate the partnership between the Kwantlen First Nation and the Township of Langley.
“I know the value of hard work, collaboration, and delivering real results for the people who live here,” said Aldag. “I am incredibly proud of the projects and initiatives we have accomplished, but there is still so much more to be done, especially in this new riding. From addressing housing shortages and expanding clean energy infrastructure to enhancing mental health services and promoting cultural growth, my focus will be on continuing to bring meaningful change that benefits everyone in Langley Township – Fraser Heights.”
Aldag also worked with various levels of government to secure over $1.3 billion to bring SkyTrain to Langley. With a commitment of $1.5 billion in new funding over 10 years to Translink to expand the transit network, residents in our region will benefit from these investments. Aldag also secured tens of millions of dollars for highway and overpass improvement projects.
Aldag’s experience as a leader who consistently brings people together and works across all levels of government will be invaluable in this new riding. His track record of securing significant federal funding for local projects speaks volumes about his ability to get things done. In fact, during his time in Parliament, Aldag helped secure over $200 million in federal investments, ensuring that the community’s needs were prioritized.
