VICTORIA: A majority of the Conservative Caucus of British Columbia has informed the party’s legal counsel that they no longer have confidence in the Leader of the Official Opposition, John Rustad. As a result, he has been removed from his role as Leader of the Official Opposition. Following a caucus vote, Trevor Halford has been selected as Interim Leader.
Upon receiving this notice, the Board of Directors passed a motion certifying that Rustad is, under section 11.02, professionally incapacitated and unable to continue as Party Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia. The Board has also passed a motion officially appointing Trevor Halford as Interim Leader. The Conservative Party of British Columbia states that it respects the democratic decision of the majority of Caucus.
The Party also expressed its deepest gratitude to John Rustad, acknowledging his leadership during a period of significant growth and historic milestones. They extend best wishes to him and his family as they enter their next chapter.
According to the Constitution of the Conservative Party of BC, the Board of Directors will now begin the process of a Leadership Race. Further updates will be provided as the process progresses.
