Last Man Stands Canada DEI Foundation is excited to announce the upcoming LMS BC Blasters CUP and PLATE Championship Finals, Grand Award Ceremony, and Cricket Festival. The event, which celebrates the third season of LMS BC Blasters, will take place on August 21st, 2024, at Newton Athletic Park in Surrey, BC.

The finals will feature the best amateur cricketers from across British Columbia where Blazing Raptors 1 is facing Surrey Sloggers for the CUP championship and Blazing Raptors 2 will go against International Student Union for the PLATE Championship. The day will include exciting performances, a grand award ceremony, and various family-friendly activities. The event is expected to draw over 300 attendees, including local dignitaries such as Mayor Brenda Locke of Surrey, who has confirmed her attendance as she did last year.

Dr. M. Emrul Hasan, CFA, FRM, PhD, Director of the Last Man Stands Canada DEI Foundation and a professor at UBC, shared his enthusiasm about the event: “This is our third season of LMS BC Blasters, and we are planning to make the event even bigger this year. We want to thank the cities of Surrey, Burnaby, and Vancouver for their unwavering support, and we are delighted to have Mayor Locke with us again. We have grown to nearly 1,200 amateur cricketers in just three years, highlighting the massive growth of cricket in Canada.”

Last Man Stands (LMS) is the world’s largest global amateur cricket league, offering a unique format that is inclusive and family-friendly. The LMS Canada DEI Foundation plays a crucial role in supporting newcomers, youth cricketers, women, people of color, Indigenous communities, and the 2SLGBTQQIA++ population by offering opportunities to play cricket at no cost.

The event will kick off at 4:00 PM PST with the CUP and PLATE finals and conclude with a grand award ceremony and a celebration of the community’s achievements. Attendees can expect a lively atmosphere with live streaming of the games, various performances, raffle draws, and photo opportunities.

In addition to celebrating cricket, LMS Canada is seeking sponsorships to help support this growing community initiative. Sponsors will gain exposure to a large audience of cricket enthusiasts and community members.
