Surrey, BC – The Times of Canada was proud to host one of India’s most celebrated wrestling icons, Pahalwan Sujeet Maan, at its office this week. In a special ceremony, Vinay Sharma, Managing Director of The Times of Canada, presented him with an Award of Appreciation for his extraordinary contributions to Indian wrestling—as both a champion athlete and an elite-level coach.

About Sujeet Maan – A Life Dedicated to Wrestling

Sujeet Maan is a name synonymous with excellence in Indian wrestling. Trained at the iconic Guru Hanuman Akhara in Delhi, he has built a legendary career marked by major milestones:

As a Wrestler:

  • Olympian Wrestler – Represented India on the world’s biggest sporting stage
  • Commonwealth Gold Medalist – Honoured as the Outstanding Wrestler of the Games
  • 4-Time Asian Championship Medalist, consistently showcasing excellence across the continent
  • Recipient of the Arjuna Award, presented by the late President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, recognizing his athletic excellence and service to Indian sport

As a Coach:

  • National Coaching Staff Member for Team India
  • Personal Coach to Olympic and World Championship medalist Bajrang Punia
  • Guided multiple athletes to international podium finishes, playing a pivotal role in India’s recent wrestling successes
  • Honoured with the prestigious Dronacharya Award (2023)—India’s highest award for coaching excellence—conferred by President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu
