The Murti Pratishtha Mahotsav at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Vancouver, British Columbia, was celebrated through a series of sacred ceremonies held from July 19 to August 2, 2026. The historic celebrations culminated in the Murti Pratishtha Mahotsav on August 2, during which Hindu Vedic rituals were performed to consecrate the sacred murtis in the presence of BAPS swamis from North America, dignitaries, community leaders, devotees, and well-wishers from across the region.
The growth of the BAPS community in Vancouver has been guided by the vision and blessings of His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj and His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj. Over the years, regular spiritual assemblies, cultural activities, and volunteer-driven initiatives have fostered a vibrant and growing community dedicated to preserving Hindu traditions, values, and heritage.
The celebrations commenced on July 19 with a Women’s Cultural Program. Through traditional dances, speeches, and video presentations, the program highlighted the vital role mandirs play in nurturing faith, culture, and values across generations. The event also celebrated the contributions of women in strengthening families, communities, and cultural traditions.
The inauguration festivities continued on July 29 with a Jal Yatra, a sacred procession held on the waters of Burrard Inlet. Hundreds of devotees participated in this unique event, offering prayers and devotion as the sanctified murtis were ceremonially welcomed. The Vishwa Shanti Mahayagna was held on August 1, during which devotees gathered to offer Vedic prayers for global peace, harmony, and the well-being of society.
The festivities culminated on August 2 with the Murti Pratishtha Mahotsav. Amid Vedic chanting and sacred rituals, the murtis of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, Aksharbrahma Gunatitanand Swami, Ghanshyam Maharaj, Bhagwan Shri Krishna and Shri Radhaji, Bhagwan Shri Ram and Shri Sitaji, Shri Hanumanji, Bhagwan Shri Shankar and Shri Parvatiji, Shri Ganapatiji, and the Guru Parampara were consecrated in their respective shrines. A murti of Shri Nilkanth Varni Maharaj was also installed, enabling devotees to perform the traditional abhishek ritual. The ceremonies were performed by Pujya Yagnavallabh Swami, Senior Swami of BAPS North America.

Reflecting on the significance of the Vishwa Shanti Mahayagna, MP Tamara Jansen shared, “In a world that can often feel divided, gatherings like this remind us that peace begins with each of us, in our homes, our communities, and in how we care for one another.”
MLA Brent Chapman remarked, “May this mandir serve as a place where culture is preserved and where people of different faiths can come together in understanding.”
Mayor Brenda Locke congratulated the community on the opening of the new mandir and noted that it marked the beginning of a new chapter for the many families who will gather there for years to come.
Councillor Dylan Kruger congratulated the BAPS community on this historic milestone and praised the organization’s longstanding contributions to Canada through community service, charitable initiatives, and volunteerism. He remarked, “We are so blessed to have BAPS here in Canada, and of course, to have this mandir in our community of Delta,” and expressed his continued support for the mandir and its future growth within the community.
Councillor Linda Annis expressed her appreciation for the milestone occasion, noting the strong support for the growth of the local Hindu community and the important role the mandir will play in serving future generations.
Shri Ravinder Mangla stated, “This temple is far more than a place of worship. It is a centre of faith, values, learning, and selfless service that nurtures spiritual growth, fosters harmony, and strengthens communities.”
The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Vancouver will continue to serve as a centre for spiritual, cultural, and humanitarian activities for people of all ages. Through weekly assemblies, educational programs, cultural initiatives, and community service activities, the mandir will help preserve Hindu traditions and values while fostering understanding, inclusivity, and service to the wider community.
The creation of this mandir is the culmination of the dedicated efforts of volunteers, supporters, and well-wishers whose commitment and service have helped establish a lasting centre of faith and community for future generations.
