KELOWNA, B.C. – Vancouver-Langara MLA Sunita Dhir joined thousands of athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers at the 2026 BC Summer Games in Kelowna, celebrating the talent and dedication of British Columbia’s young athletes.
The Games brought together more than 3,000 athletes, coaches, and officials competing in 19 sports, including wrestling, swimming, athletics, basketball, rugby, triathlon, volleyball, baseball, rowing, canoe/kayak, golf, and lacrosse.
One of the highlights for Dhir was seeing athletes from Vancouver, Surrey, and other Lower Mainland communities, including many from Punjabi backgrounds, excel throughout the Games. Punjabi athletes continued their proud tradition of success, particularly in wrestling, while also competing strongly in several other sports.
During the Games, Dhir joined fellow MLAs in presenting a provincial proclamation to Kelowna Mayor Tom Dyas, recognizing Kelowna’s hosting of the 2026 BC Summer Games and celebrating the city’s commitment to sport and healthy communities.
Dhir also attended the Opening Ceremony and had the honour of presenting medals in swimming, triathlon, and women’s rugby.
“It was inspiring to see so many talented young athletes competing with determination and sportsmanship,” said Dhir. “I was especially proud to see athletes from our South Asian community representing their hometowns with excellence. Their achievements are a testament to their hard work, the dedication of their coaches, and the unwavering support of their families.”
Dhir congratulated all participants, volunteers, and organizers for making the 2026 BC Summer Games a tremendous success and thanked the City of Kelowna for its warm hospitality.
