Surrey MLAs Host a Community Eid Celebration

SURREY, BC — On Saturday, March 28th, Surrey MLAs Amna Shah, Garry Begg, Jessie Sunner, Jagrup Brar, and Ravi Kahlon hosted a vibrant community Eid celebration that welcomed hundreds of residents from across the city. The event was a heartfelt reflection of Surrey’s diversity and strong sense of community, bringing together families, community leaders, and local stakeholders to mark the joyous occasion.

MLA Amna Shah and MLA Garry Begg served as emcees for the afternoon, guiding the program with warmth and energy. The celebration began with a moving rendition of the national anthem by Jugpreet Singh Bajwa, followed by a prayer led by Imam Fahim Khan, who offered blessings for peace, unity, and prosperity for all in attendance.

Guests enjoyed a welcoming atmosphere with food and tea served throughout the event, creating space for connection and conversation. Families and children were especially engaged, with a dedicated kids’ table featuring art activities and henna, offering a fun and culturally rich experience for attendees of all ages.

A highlight of the MLA hosted event was a dynamic performance by the Turath Troupe, whose traditional Dabke dance energized the room. Their synchronized footwork, rhythmic stomping, and coordinated movements performed in a line with dancers linked hand-in-hand or shoulder-to-shoulder brought guests to their feet and added a powerful cultural moment to the celebration.
