Aheer Transportation Ltd. is taking a significant step toward a cleaner and more sustainable future for freight transportation with the launch of its battery-electric truck through the Port of Vancouver’s Electric Container Trucking Program (ELECTRA) in May/June 2026.
The ELECTRA program brings together industry, government and transportation partners to test the use of zero-emission heavy-duty trucks in real-world container drayage operations. The initiative introduces six battery-electric Class 8 trucks into commercial service, allowing participating carriers to gain valuable experience with electric technology while supporting Canada’s transition toward lower-emission freight transportation.
The program is backed by $3 million in combined funding from Transport Canada, the Province of British Columbia, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and BC Hydro. Aheer Transportation is participating alongside other carriers. Holding, Simard Westlink, TransBC Freight and West Coast Freight.
As part of the initiative, the participating trucks will operate in regular commercial container drayage service, generating practical data on vehicle performance, energy consumption, charging requirements, operating costs and overall reliability. The program is designed to collect 12 months of operational data, providing valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges associated with deploying heavy-duty electric trucks in Canada’s transportation sector.
