The atmosphere was filled with anticipation on Tuesday, April 15, during the 2025 Delta Reading Link Challenge. Nineteen teams gathered in the Ladner Elementary gym to represent ten schools from North Delta, five from Tsawwassen and four from Ladner. The event drew a large crowd of parents and teachers, which included School District 37 Trustees Val Windsor and Joe Muego, Delta Friends of the Library President Evelyn Funk, and Delta Libraries Manager Courtney Robinson. After three rounds of questions, there was a clear winner! Congratulations to the On the Same Page team from Ladner Elementary – Olivia, Julie, Midori, Karissa, Abby – along with their Learning Support teacher, Carole Abercrombie! They will represent Delta at the Fraser Valley Regional Library Community Challenge, facing teams from across the Fraser Valley region on Wednesday, April 23, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the KPU Langley Campus. Best of luck to the On the Same Page team!
The FVRL Reading Link Challenge is a yearly event that encourages reading as a fun and recreational activity for Grade 4 and 5 students of all reading abilities to engage in the sport of reading. Interested students form teams of six players. Teams are accountable for knowing the contents of six books, with each team player responsible for reading at least one title. Kids get the books (provided by FVRL) in November and read until February. After the Delta Challenge, the winning team competes in the FVRL Community Challenge with the hopes of representing FVRL at the regional Grand Challenge, where they’ll compete against teams from other public libraries for a chance to win the Reading Link Challenge Trophy.
