Former Councillor and Educator Sylvia Bishop Will Run with One Delta This Fall
DELTA, BC — Former City Councillor Sylvia Bishop has confirmed rumours that she is coming out of retirement to run with One Delta this fall, saying Delta is at a turning point and the city deserves better.
“It’s time for leadership that listens and delivers for Delta, and this moment is too important to sit out,” says Bishop. “I’ve watched what’s happened at City Hall and I couldn’t stay on the sidelines. One Delta has the right team, the right plan and the right values. That’s why I’m in.”
Bishop is a lifelong Delta resident, a two-term councillor, a teacher with 24 years in the classroom, and a longtime community volunteer who has served with organizations such as the Delta Heritage Society and REACH Child and Youth Development Society. She says her decision to return to public life was driven by a concern that the Mayor’s Office has lost touch with the residents it is supposed to serve.
“Under the current leadership, communication and transparency have eroded. Public voices have been limited, committees dissolved and decisions made behind closed doors. That’s not how City Hall should operate,” she says. “Residents deserve to have their voices heard, not managed.”
Bishop says the path forward is straightforward: get back to the basics, listen to residents and deliver results for every neighbourhood in Delta.
“If something isn’t working, someone has to step up and fix it. Residents should feel welcome at City Hall, not shut out of it. We need a council that works with the community, not around it,” says Bishop.
“When I saw the One Delta councillors consistently stand up for transparency and accountability, even when it was difficult, I knew this was the team I wanted to join to help build a stronger future for Delta. What makes this team special is that it is bringing together people who supported different parties and ran on different slates, all united by a shared commitment to move Delta forward.”
Bishop joins incumbent councillors Daniel Boisvert, Rod Binder, Jennifer Johal and Dylan Kruger as announced members of the One Delta team.
“Sylvia Bishop has spent decades serving this community and fighting for the people of Delta,” says Kruger. “When someone with her experience and credibility decides this is the moment to come back, people take notice. We are incredibly proud to have her on the One Delta team.”
One Delta will unveil its entire team of candidates for Mayor, Council, and School Board on May 27. Delta’s municipal election takes place in October 2026.
