Sunil Kaushal’s life journey embodies these values, revealing a story that traverses continents, overcomes challenges, and inspires those who dream of achieving excellence in their chosen paths. In this comprehensive account, we delve into the life, achievements, and enduring legacy of Sunil Kaushal—a name associated with dynamic leadership, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of success.
Born on 11th May 1951 in Modi Nagar, District Meerut, India, Sunil Kaushal grew up in Sindri, Dhanbad, Bihar, where his father worked with the Fertilizer Corporation of India and his mother taught at a primary school. Encouraged by their example and the guidance of inspiring teachers, he excelled in academics and extracurricular activities, developing a sharp analytical mind and a passion for learning. After completing his schooling in Sindri, he earned a place at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat, graduating with distinction in Mechanical Engineering in 1973. This academic achievement laid the foundation for his professional journey and future successes.
In 1979, Sunil Kaushal married Indu, whose unwavering support and encouragement have been a constant source of inspiration throughout his life. Together, they were blessed with two sons—Rohit, born in 1981, and Kunal, born in 1987. Today, Rohit is the proud father of two sons, while Kunal is blessed with two daughters. Sunil and Indu cherish their role as grandparents, finding immense joy and pride in their growing family, which remains the heart of their happiness.
With a keen interest in engineering, Sunil’s father encouraged him to start his own venture. With limited resources, Sunil began a small fabrication workshop in a rented 300 sq. ft. unit, employing just two workers. Through determination and vision, this modest beginning grew into a thriving industry over 25 years—an 80,000 sq. ft. self-owned facility specializing in the fabrication of large power transformer tanks. Employing nearly 300 workers and staff, the company became a trusted supplier to renowned transformer manufacturers such as ABB, Siemens, CG Power, and BHEL. His factory even contributed to India’s largest 1200 KV ultra-high voltage projects with ABB, a testament to the quality and reliability of his work.
Sunil’s factory was located in Govindpura Industrial Area, Bhopal, home to around 400 industries. He played an active role in the Industrial Association, a non-profit body representing the collective interests of its members. Over the years, Sunil was elected repeatedly—first as an executive member, later as Secretary, and eventually as President (2001–2003). During his presidency, he spearheaded the ambitious task of compiling a comprehensive industrial directory, released by the then Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Digvijay Singh. This directory remains a valuable resource for promoting business collaborations in the region.
After successfully running his industry for 40 years, Sunil began planning for retirement. Research led him to Vancouver, Canada, where he envisioned a peaceful yet engaging post-retirement life. In 2009, he immigrated with his wife and younger son under the Entrepreneur Category. His elder son, already married, chose to remain in Bhopal to run his own business.
Initially, Sunil planned to extend his fabrication expertise to Canada. Leveraging his ties with CG Power, which had acquired a Belgian company with a plant in Winnipeg, he set up a transformer tank fabrication unit in Vancouver. For three years, his company supplied to CG Power in Winnipeg until the facility was sold, leading to closure of the venture.
Sunil’s younger son completed his graduation in business management at Simon Fraser University (SFU). Together, father and son launched a builder and developer enterprise in Vancouver, where his son took the lead role and Sunil contributed in a guiding capacity. This marked the beginning of Sunil’s semi-retired life, balancing business with community service.
Sunil Kaushal has always believed in giving back to society. In Vancouver, he actively volunteers as the Coordinator of the Seniors’ Wing of the Laxmi Narayan Temple in Surrey, which has around 100 senior members. Under his leadership, the group organizes yoga classes, weekly games, bus trips, group celebrations, and other activities fostering social bonding and wellbeing.
Drawing upon his builder experience, Sunil also volunteers as Coordinator for the New Shiv Temple Project at the Laxmi Narayan Temple, an ambitious expansion plan of nearly 20,000 sq. ft.—even larger than the existing temple structure. His efforts are instrumental in shaping this project into a reality.
The road to success is seldom smooth, and Sunil Kaushal’s journey has been no exception. Market uncertainties, technological disruptions, and organizational challenges often tested his resilience. Yet, he consistently approached obstacles with adaptability and optimism, turning setbacks into opportunities for growth. His ability to transform crises into stepping stones inspired colleagues, employees, and aspiring leaders alike.
At the heart of Sunil Kaushal’s life are the values of integrity, humility, and service. Known for his vision and leadership, he has always remained grounded, approachable, and committed to uplifting others. His legacy is not only defined by his professional accomplishments but also by the lives he has touched through mentorship, philanthropy, and personal example. Sunil firmly believes that true leadership lies not only in achieving success but in inspiring and empowering others to succeed as well.
Sunil attributes his journey’s successes to divine blessings, the unwavering support of his wife Indu, the love of his sons and their families, and the faith of friends, colleagues, and employees. He remains deeply grateful for every hand that has helped him along the way.
The life journey of Sunil Kaushal is a testament to vision, perseverance, and ethical leadership.
