Since joining the Surrey Fire Service on May 16, 2022, Katelyn (Katie) Devaney has distinguished herself not only as a firefighter, but as a dedicated community builder whose service extends well beyond her uniform. As an active member of the Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society (SFFCS), Katie consistently gives her time off-duty to support programs and initiatives that strengthen Surrey and uplift those who need it most.
One of Katie’s most meaningful contributions is her work with the BCPFFA Burn Camp, where she serves as a counsellor supporting young burn survivors through care, mentorship, and encouragement. Her involvement goes beyond direct engagement; she also sat on the 2025 Burn Camp Kickoff Committee, helping to organize and launch programming that fosters healing, confidence, and connection for campers and their families. Her presence reflects empathy, patience, and a deep understanding of the importance of emotional support alongside physical recovery.
Katie also represents the Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society at community-focused events such as the Mayor’s Evening of Giving, strengthening partnerships and highlighting the role of firefighters as community advocates. In addition, she supports local healthcare initiatives as a Champion of the Crescent with the Surrey Hospital Foundation, reinforcing her commitment to public well-being and service.
Within the SFFCS, Katie is a familiar and reliable volunteer across numerous events and initiatives, including Bright Nights, the annual Boot Drive, the Charity Golf Tournament, Battle of the Brews, the Goodwill Senior Girls Basketball Classic, and the inaugural Fire House Classic Volleyball Tournament. She has also assisted with the Surrey Fire Fighters Nutritional Snack Program, helping ensure youth have access to nourishment and positive community engagement.
Katie Devaney’s consistent volunteerism reflects a genuine commitment to service, teamwork, and compassion—values that continue to make a lasting impact throughout the Surrey community.
