Burnaby was buzzing with energy, colour, and connection on Saturday, June 28, as the Canadian Cultural Festival presented by BCIT returned for its highly anticipated annual celebration. Drawing thousands of attendees, the event transformed the city into a vibrant hub of multicultural pride, creativity, and community spirit.
From sunrise to sunset, festival goers immersed themselves in a joyful mix of cultural showcases, international cuisines, and family-friendly activities. The Main Stage was a standout attraction, featuring over 18 captivating performances that spanned the globe—from the graceful rhythms of Bharatanatyam and Okinawan Yosakoi dances to upbeat R&B, Bossa Nova, and a crowd-pleasing Zumba finale by the Fitness with GQ team.
This year’s event also saw strong support from community leaders. MP Garnett Genuis, Shadow Minister for Employment and Social Development, made a special appearance alongside Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley and City Councillors Joe Keithley, Maita Santiago, James Wang, Attilio Pietro Calendino and Consul General Angel Liu, and VYVA’s president Charlene Liu. Their presence highlighted Burnaby’s ongoing commitment to diversity, youth empowerment, and inclusive community-building.
In addition to the cultural festivities, the festival hosted a well-attended Job Fair and Career Workshop Series, where over 600 participants explored employment opportunities and gained practical advice from HR professionals and wellness advocates. Leaders commended the Vancouver Young Volunteer Association (VYVA) for its vital role in helping newcomers build confidence and prepare for life and work in Canada.
Festivalgoers also enjoyed outdoor yoga sessions, wellness activities on the grass, and browsing locally made art at the Arts & Crafts Market. Whether meeting new friends or reconnecting with neighbours, the event served as a reminder of how culture brings people together.
With something for every age and background, the Canadian Cultural Festival once again proved itself as one of Burnaby’s most cherished celebrations—uniting communities through shared stories, traditions, and hope for a more inclusive future.
