Port Coquitlam, BC | May 3, 1:00–5:00 PM

Rang Mela, Metro Vancouver’s first-of-its-kind, dance-first, color-centric cultural festival, will take place on May 3 at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre. The festival celebrates color as the universal language of dance, culture, and community, offering a participatory experience unlike any other in British Columbia.

Unlike traditional festivals, the International Dance Day Edition transforms Rang Mela into a holistic, immersive experience, where audiences will not remain spectators alone; they will engage, share, and express themselves alongside performers in a colorful celebration of dance.

“Color is how we see emotion. Dance is how we express it. Rang Mela brings these together in a celebration where every movement, rhythm, and culture tells a story,” says Dhaara Thakkar, Founder, Mad Good Media & Team Member, PT Dance Company.

Produced by PT Dance Events (an initiative of PT Dance Company), in association with Mad Good Media (Event & Marketing Partner) and Hindus Serve Everyone (Event & Community Partner), the festival is designed as a family-friendly, inclusive, and participatory celebration.

A Celebration of Color, Culture, and Community

The festival revolves around a single guiding question: “What does color mean to you?” Every segment, performance, interactive activity, and communal experience reflects this philosophy:

  • Global Showcase: Curated performances showcase how different cultures interpret and express color through emotion, music, and movement, featuring artists from India, Colombia, and beyond.
  • All Fun & Games: Guests engage in team-based games and interactive dance challenges, fostering connection and inclusivity.
  • The Rang Mela Experience: A peak-energy moment where the audience joins performers on a DJ-led open dance floor, experiencing color and movement as one unified celebration.
  • Cultural Marketplace & Kids Corner: Culinary and creative experiences bring culture to life, from “Taste the World Through Color” vendor offerings to kid-friendly activities exploring expression, art, and dance.

“Events like Rang Mela create spaces where community, creativity, and culture intersect. By turning audiences into participants, we foster a sense of belonging, shared joy, and celebration,” explains Ravi Seru, Hindus Serve Everyone, Rang Mela Organizing Team.

What Makes Rang Mela Stand Out

  • BC’s First Dance-First, Color-Centric Festival: A unique platform where dance drives the experience, combined with audience participation and cultural storytelling, making it unlike any other event in the province.
  • Dance as a Universal Language: From Flamenco to Bhangra to contemporary movement, every performance embodies emotion and cultural expression through color in motion.
  • Curated, Holistic Experience: Every element, from entry zones and color-themed detailing to interactive walls and dance floor prompts, reinforces the central theme of color as a connector.
  • Community First: Designed to be inclusive for all ages, cultures, and backgrounds, Rang Mela invites audiences to feel like active participants, not just spectators.
  • Shareable Moments: With Instagram-worthy color walls, interactive performances, and collaborative dance, the festival ensures experiences are captured and shared, amplifying its reach and impact.

Rang Mela invites everyone to experience dance as a living, moving, colorful celebration, because if the world could speak a single universal language, it would be dance.
