Jan. 16, 2020: A fresh extreme weather warning of snowfall calling for up to 10 more centimeters of snow is in place for eastern areas of Metro Vancouver and northern Vancouver Island. Blizzard and winter storm warnings are in effect for Howe Sound, while the Fraser Valley is under a renewed Arctic outflow warning.
There were more than 30,000 people without power at the storm’s peak after downed trees and branches fell onto power lines. Around 7,500 remain in the dark Thursday, though Environment Canada said the weather system that created the storm has moved off the mainland and BC Hydro crews are working through the day.
Wind warnings were lifted across the South Coast, aside from the Sunshine Coast, on Thursday morning — but the weather agency warned “bursts of snow” were still possible.
